jingoistic insanity [Oct. 18th, 2001|12:02 pm]
Today tops it all. There's a flag on my desk wen I get into work, with a sign on it saying today is a "UNITED WE STAND Employee Recognition Day LAO LOVES AMERICA!". Do I get a black mark on my permanent record if I throw it out?

All these flags everywhere only make me think of war. I'm really gonna get it for saying this, but what about a damn peace sign or a picture of the planet? Isn't that what it's all about? This "America America" stuff makes it like we're only out for ourselves. I'm not unpatriotic, but we're not the only ones here, right?

no, I think you're right... but...

I think this need to show the flag is people's way of saying look, we survived, america survived, that even if we're a little bruised we're still americans. It's absurd, in some ways, and I really hate it when it gets shoved down yer throat, but especially here in NYC it's sort of a macho way of expressing emotion without having to do something like cry, and if you do, that's ok, because its the flag and america and stuff.
