is it too... old fogyish... to complain that perl didn't exist when I was in eleventh grade? Or do I have to go on to complain that I learned to program in my spare time in assembler, uphill, both ways, in octal, on the guts of a 8080-based traffic light controller, to reach fogydom?

(alright, I confess, I had a Commodore by the 11th grade, but the above is still nominally true.)

brand me an old fogy then: i learned Basic on an Atari 400 in the 4th grade...

...but I still have to listen to my dad gripe about the virtues of Fortran - now that's really old fogy stuff...

perl/cgi programming makes my brain hurt

Lol - that's the one all right... it had enough power to run Zork, but you sometimes couldn't find the right flat keys fast enough to avoid being eaten by a groo...

Heh, my early programming was Basic (and then C-Basic) on TRS-80s in high school.
