well, not really. I'm in texas. But, lapis_lazuli did, and she's fine. she's in her hotel room in NYC celebrating her birthday with a nice cool bath. All in all, it could have been a lot worse, but people are being very orderly and things seem ok.

Everyone seems surprised that people are keeping calm. I'm a little confused: has there been a similar incident where people have panicked? There was a big blackout in 1977 wasn't there, and this gave rise to an urban legend about lots more babies born 9 months later? But bonking doesn't sound like panicking. Or is it that people think other people are jittery because of terrorists, but in fact no one really is?

Glad lapis_lazuli is enjoying her birthday!

on panicking

during the blackout in the sixties, there was looting and panic. Of course, people are worried about terrorism. But really, we're much more worried about the incompetence of the people around us, in general.
